Homunculus – Dark Mild
A homunculus was a small person created in alchemy. Homunculus is technically a British Dark Mild. This style was the most popular beer sold in pubs until the 1960’s, but now it is relatively hard to find, even in the U.K. It’s a low alcohol beer, malt focused, with notes of chocolate and mild in bitterness.
Gaspipes – Premium Bitter
Gaspipes was Victorian slang for skinny pants. Gaspipes is a traditional English bitter. We typically serve it naturally carbonated and served from a handpump. The name ‘bitter’ was an old term to differentiate it from a ‘mild’ or less hopped beer. This beer is still a malt forward beer, with a crispness from the hops and a nice dry finish.
Altstadt Brewery
Hefe – South German-style Hefeweizen
A traditional German Wheat beer. More than half of the malt used in this full-bodied brew is made up of German malted wheat. But the star of this brew is the yeast! Fermented in our open-fermentation vessels, the yeast is free to impart a variety of fruity and spicy clove-like flavors.
Kolsch – German-style Kolsch
Our Kolsch is a crisp, well-balanced blend of select German malts, noble hops, and top fermenting yeast. This results in a light-golden colored, refreshing beverage with just a kiss of hops at the end. This delicate brew is comparable to the finest beers originating from Cologne, only it’s made right here in Texas!

Our Belgian style tripel is lightly colored and highly aromatic with spicy, fruity, and herbal notes. Its medium-bodied with a smooth, warming finish that barely betrays its deceptively high (8.5% ABV) alcohol content. The Act of Faith’s complexity is a sure reward for the willing.

That Tracks – IPA
This IPA lives somewhere between the bitter pine/citrus of the West and the soft tropical juice of the East. Oats soften the edges while Chinook hops lay the foundational bitterness. Big whirlpool additions of Simcoe and Amarillo provide resin, pine, and citrus. Further layers of citrus and tropical fruit come from the Azacca and Simcoe Cryo dry-hops. Soft but refreshing, bitter but juicy, neither hazy, nor crystal clear… IPA is ever-changing, but this is where we think you want to be right now- yeah that tracks.
Painted Porch – Pilsner
Zesty hop aroma and crisp, bready malt combine with a subtle minerality to create a balanced sip that lingers on your tongue, begging for another. In Germany, a Spassvogel (or “funbird”) is the one friend you can always count on to keep the excitement going.

Grist & Fermentation – American Pale Ale (APA)
Pale ale? IPA? This one tries harder; it straddles style definitions, and is sure to confound generations of learned scholars to come…maybe. Initially conceived as a pale ale, this recipe gave us a bigger beer than we bargained for. Whatever you call it, be sure to sip one before making up your mind!
GRIST is a delightful, easy drinker. Like all good pale ales, balance is key and Victory, Cara-Pils and pale ale malts make a strong backbone. Mosaic lends pine, resin and tropic fruit aromas and flavors, and Citra and Azacca swoop in to finish the job!

Much like our neighborhood, Puro Southtown is honest, effervescent, refreshing and creative. It is an eclectic mix of culture and history. It is welcoming to any palate, and exactly the pint you want to come home to. Puro is made to enjoy on a hot afternoon’s porch, or poolside with a side of salsa or salsa dancing. It takes no offence to adding lime, or salt. At 4.9 percent ABV, this beer is crushable! Puro Southtown was brewed with a German Lager yeast strain and copious amounts of (let’s just assume Mexican) maize.
Trash Talk – Hazy IPA
Pours thick, hazy, and golden yellow, while aromas of ripe tropical fruit jump from the glass. Trash Talk starts a strong game with concentrated flavors of pineapple sorbet, oranges, guava, apricot and mango gummies. Full-bodied (like Mohamed Ali), extremely tropical (like Dwayne Johnson), and by using a healthy percentage of wheat in the grist, the mouth feel is suave and plush (like Michael Jordan). It finishes the game strong (like Schwarzenegger), with enough citrus zest to balance it all out. While you might not quite float like a butterfly (but think you do), and sting like a bee,You’ll Be Back
Wolfie – Vienna Lager
You drank all the Oktoberfest before we even had a chance to take off our Dirndls and Lederhosen. We quickly brewed another Märzen, with some minor changes: we substituted the Munich Malt with Vienna malt and added some darker crystal malts. It still has the same refreshing, malty flavor you loved – think Amber. Märzen, is a style that is identical to historical Vienna lagers, with the exception that it is probably brewed somewhere other than Vienna. In Germany, legally a beer can only be called Oktoberfest beer if it is brewed in Munich and served at Oktoberfest.
Guava Goddess – Gose
This Gose is a perfect balance of tart, sweet, and sour. We think Guava has beautiful notes of strawberries, and pear, with just a hint of fresh cut pineapple, giving it a nice tropical flair. The pink Himalayan salt makes all of these flavors pop, leaving you wanting more. Word on the street goes, y’all really like our Goses…because we can’t seem to keep up with brewing them! Because Guava Gose is so much fun to say, we decided to put our spin on guava purée. Imagine our surprise when we tasted it!

The first sip gives upfront citrus and sweet fleshy fruit flavor with a note of bitter orange zest, tart pineapple, and a trace of mild hop bitterness that fades rapidly with a distinctly vanilla-sweet finish. The lactose adds an extra smooth and creamy layer to an already soft and fluffy texture in this specialty NEIPA style.
Nightmare on 1st Street – Imperial Pumpkin Ale
We brewed up a an Imperial Amber ale as our binding potion, with a big, malty, biscuity, caramel flavor. Then we add good thoughts of pumpkin and spice: lots of ginger and clove, with a bit of cinnamon and allspice to balance. Just enough hops to give it a bit of sweetness.

Patek Pils – Czech Pilsner
Crisp, and balanced. It’s inspired by one of our founders’ family heritage. John Patek immigrated from Czechoslovakia to Shiner, TX in 1895. We chose to brew our first Czech Pils as an homage to the “old world”, the Pateks, South Texas, and Polka!
We brewed with pilsner malt and added a touch of Vienna and Munich Malt for subtle complexity. Then we liberally hopped it with Czech Saaz hops for a balanced bitterness and pleasant herbal hop aroma with a touch of lemon. Finally, it was fermented with a classic Czech strain and lagered for a crisp and refreshing finish!

Fresh Kicks – Hazy IPA
Fresh Kicks is inspired by Hazy IPAs from the Northeast – beers that are at their best when consumed hella-fresh. The grain bill includes oats and malted wheat – malts rich in proteins that lend this beer its distinctive hazy appearance and a soft mouthfeel. A blend of Azacca, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Strata hops, added at multiple times in the fermentation process, produces hop flavors and aromas that mimic the addition of ripe tropical fruits. Like that new pair of fresh kicks, this beer will have you walking on AIR.
Hans’ Pils – German-Style Pilsner
You might say, a great beer is man’s other best friend.
So when we made this German-style Pilsner, it just made sense to name it after the brewery’s dog, Hans — our owner’s German Shorthair Pointer. Inspired by the pilsner beers of Northern Germany, Hans is crisp, brightly hoppy, and full of flavor. At 50 IBUs and featuring Tettnang hops, it’s even hoppier than many pale ales. The German malt helps create a nice pale golden color and provides the perfect companion to the hops.

Hazy, soft, aromatic, and juicy. It’s polite to pass, but we won’t judge you if you Bogart this bluntly delicious IPA. Simcoe, Strata, and Cascade hops burst out and capture you in a cloud of awesome.

Originally released in 2009 as Divine Reserve No. 9, it is an imperial pumpkin stout and our answer to how a pumpkin beer ought to taste. It is brewed with a combination of pale two row, caramel and black malts, Cascade and Liberty hops for a background hop flavor, pumpkin for a rich mouthfeel, molasses, brown sugar, spices and dry-spiced to make it feel like you just walked into your mom’s kitchen while she was cooking 37 pumpkin pies. It is the most expensive beer we have brewed.

Double Down – Double IPA
All In On Hops! Our newest year round release, Double Down, is our latest take on a double IPA. It is neither of the West Coast or East Coast, but features elements of both approaches to IPA.
For this beer, our focus was to create big tropical and melon notes while integrating bitterness rather than it being a focal point. To accomplish this, we used late kettle hop additions and Incognito, an all-natural hop product that delivers highly concentrated flavor and aroma. The hop bill includes Pahto, Citra, Citra Incognito, Mosaic, Mosaic Incognito, and Galaxy. The result is aces.
Art Car IPA – American IPA
Art Car IPA is an American IPA featuring a blend of both new and old hop varieties from the Pacific Northwest.
